The Smart Home Hackathon "Shape the Future of Smart Homes!" brings together creative minds from various fields in Dortmund.

Join the hackathon on July 11 and 12, 2025 and develop creative solutions for a smart, sustainable and data-sovereign smart home.

The Smart Home Hackathon "Shape the Future of Smart Homes!" brings together creative minds from various fields in Dortmund. Technology fans, innovators, data experts and simply curious people work together to develop digital solutions for the smart home of tomorrow. The format is characterized by real challenges, exciting contacts and plenty of room for ideas. The offer is complemented by certificates of participation and prize money totaling 1,200 euros. The hackathon offers the opportunity to shape the smart future of tomorrow in interdisciplinary teams, combining specialist knowledge with creativity.

The hackathon will take place on July 11 and 12, 2025 in Dortmund - participation is free of charge. All participants can expect a varied program with exciting tasks from business practice. There will also be certificates of participation, certificates and the chance to win prize money totaling 1,200 euros. The main language of the event is English.

What will the home of the future look like - smart, sustainable and data sovereign? At the Smart Home Hackathon, interdisciplinary teams come together to develop innovative ideas for a smart home. Together, they develop creative solutions for real challenges in the smart home sector. Experts from research, start-ups and companies provide specialist support.

The focus is on several exciting challenges from the smart home sector. Participants will work on real issues that companies are facing today - practical, relevant and with a real impact. At the end, all teams will present their results to a jury of experts who will award prizes for the best ideas. Whether beginner or professional: everyone can take part! Our cooperation partners include the Smart City Initiative of the City of Dortmund, the CONNECTED.ESSEN initiative, Vreeda, PARAX, fior Home, Logarithmo, Fraunhofer ISST, the Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the CET (Center for Entrepreneurship & Transfer). The hackathon is part of the BMFTR-funded research project Opt-IN (more information about the project on our website or social media).
