The Project of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) “Opt-IN: Optimizing informational sustainability for citizens in data ecosystems” is launched
Based on state-of-the-art technologies, the interdisciplinary research consortium is developing a data protection-compliant ecosystem by looking at real-life use cases in the context of smart homes and smart cities.
The aim of the project is to enable citizens to transparently track and monitor the flow of their data. Allowing citizens to actively assert their fundamental right to informational self-determination in a world in which digital platforms are increasingly collecting personal data.
The interdisciplinary consortium of science and practice consists of eleven project partners. Within TU Dortmund University, the Professorships of Entrepreneurship and Digitalization (Prof. Hensellek), Digital Transformation (Prof. Wiesche) and Industrial Information Management (Prof. Otto) are involved. Other funded project partners are the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISST), VREEDA GmbH and Logarithmo GmbH & Co. KG. Associated partners include the Center for Entrepreneurship and Transfer (CET), the City of Dortmund/Smart City Dortmund, the Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), DOdata GmbH and the Smart City Initiative - CONNECTED.ESSEN.
The project duration is 36 months from October 10, 2023 until September 30, 2026.
